messages of hope

chalk message of hope

On Friday evening we welcomed Shane Claiborne to Dominion-Chalmers United Church.  We sang, we prayed, we received, we breathed.  It was a blessed night.  And we commissioned the congregation with an unusual task upon leaving: write messages of hope on the city streets, sidewalks, buildings and edifices with chalk.  Share the good news in a new and unexpected way.

In his address, Shane spoke about how we, as Christians, are called to be set apart; a holy people.  We are supposed to be different.  And I’ve been delving deep into my soul, examining my life, and the life of our branch of the Church, and I’ve been feeling more and more concerned that I don’t see that separateness in us, in me.  I don’t see us setting ourselves apart as we should.  I don’t see enough Holy difference.

So tomorrow I’ll be chalking up a message or two.  And I’m going to start living out His message of hope in every word, in every action.

Because He wants me to be Holy.
